Guest Musicians

We are always delighted by the support of special guests making our concerts even more exciting with their outstanding talent. Here is a list of the musicians we have performed with together over the past few years.

Nina Majer (voc) studied classical ballet in Kiel, Hanover and Hamburg and trained as a stage musician with a focus on vocals at the Hamburg School of Music. Today she works as a vocal coach and as a singer in various jazz formations – from swing to urban fusion – captivating audiences with her impressive vocal range and a fine sense for spontaneous interaction between instrumentalists and singer.

Boyke Dettmers (vib) not only has extensive training and experience as a pianist: he is probably the best-known vibraphonist in Bremen’s jazz scene and has performed with renowned artists such as Herb Geller, Wolfgang Schlüter and Charlie Antolini. Boyke has been involved in productions for, among others, the Goethe Theatre in Bremen and NDR. He regularly delights audiences with his subtle dynamics, virtuosity and varied improvisations.

Alison Degbe (voc) completed classical vocal training and founded her first jazz duo at the age of 18. Since then she has performed in different formations at festivals and solo concerts. She masters an astonishing range of styles – from swing and tasteful lounge music to “classic” modern jazz and committed rock and soul sounds.

Baritone saxophonist Oliver Meyer began his musical career in a “quite conventional” way at the age of 6 on the tenor recorder. This was followed by 10 years of lessons on the (home) organ, where he realised early on that, instead of the usual dance music for celebrations, he preferred to play jazz. This love of improvised music –from classic swing to modern funk – led him to choose the saxophone as his next instrument with main focus on the baritone sax. Today he plays regularly at jam sessions and in two saxophone quartets.

Jan-Olaf Rodt is one of the best-known jazz guitarists on Bremen’s scene. Since completing his training as a certified music teacher (Diplommusiklehrer) at the University of the Arts in Bremen, he has played with his own quartet and in other ensembles throughout Europe and works as a studio musician. He is involved in numerous musical and theatre productions and teaches guitar, ear training and ensemble direction at music schools, universities and colleges.
